Reflection of the Inner Landscape – A Wandering Journey
On Small Formats & Portable Intimacy
The recent watercolors created in Portugal are all executed on intimate, small-scale formats—A4, A5, postcard-sized. Small formats invite closeness. They call for intimacy, a sanctuary I found myself longing for through the experience of displacement. Yet, they are also portable, weightless, made for wandering. They belong to those who imagine their world packed into suitcases. I think of my grandparents arriving from Europe with a handful of belongings, and now, my children and I find ourselves here, carrying our lives in much the same way.
